Collecting data

Let us begin our discussion of data collection by placing it within the larger context of how a case study is done.

Back to the linear, yet iterative, nature of case study procedures

Once you have done all of the necessary preparations to collect data, you should be forewarned that everything is about to become a lot more messy and non-linear. Referring to Figure 10.4, which reproduces a modified Figure 10.1, the process so far has been a straight-line shot from planning the study to designing the study to preparing to collect data. In Figure 10.4, the boldfaced arrows from “PLAN” to “DESIGN” to “PREPARE” only go one way. So far, so good.
